About Us

A community football club

Lytchett Matravers Football Club was established in 2018, with the aim of keeping the game of football in the village. We provide a safe, fun and engaging environment for children to learn this wonderful sport.

Our club philosophy is this: FOOTBALL FOR ALL. FUN FOR ALL

At Lytchett Matravers FC, we want every child to enjoy playing football, make friends, develop their skills and grow in confidence.

We want children to love the game and want to keep playing it. While we encourage our teams to compete and do their best to win, results are not the measure of a child's success or a coach's ability.

WHAT YOUR CHILD CAN EXPECT FROM US

TO BE INCLUDED

Every child deserves the opportunity to play, learn and develop. We will support players of all abilities and recognise that children develop at different rates.

TO ENJOY THEIR FOOTBALL

Training and matches should be positive, challenging and enjoyable. We want children to look forward to coming to football.

TO DEVELOP

Our coaches will work to develop the whole player — their technical ability, understanding of the game, confidence, resilience and ability to work with others.

TO MAKE MISTAKES

Mistakes are part of learning. We encourage players to try things, make decisions and be brave rather than being afraid of getting things wrong.

TO BE ENCOURAGED TO THINK FOR THEMSELVES

We don't want children simply following instructions from the sideline. We want them to learn to read the game, make decisions and find solutions for themselves.

TO PLAY FOOTBALL

We believe children learn by playing. Training will give players lots of opportunities to have the ball, make decisions and experience realistic football situations. It may look messy and chaotic at times - but football is a messy, chaotic invasion game.

WHAT WE ASK FROM PARENTS

ENCOURAGE — DON'T COACH

Your child's coach is responsible for coaching. Your role is to provide encouragement and support.

Let your child make their own decisions and experience the game for themselves.

CELEBRATE THE EFFORT, NOT JUST THE RESULT

Ask your child:

  • “Did you enjoy it?”
  • “What did you learn?”
  • “What are you proud of?”

rather than focusing solely on the score or whether they won.

Tell them how much you enjoy just watching them play.

LET THEM MAKE MISTAKES

A misplaced pass, missed chance or lost tackle is not a disaster — it is part of becoming a better player.

SUPPORT ALL THE PLAYERS

Encourage your own child, but also recognise good play and effort from their teammates and opponents.

RESPECT THE GAME

We expect parents to respect coaches, referees, opposition players and other parents. The example we set on the touchline matters, they learn from it.

REMEMBER...

Your child is not playing football to fulfil an adult's ambition.

They are playing because they love the game.

Our job, coaches and parents together, is to protect that enjoyment while giving them the opportunity to become the best footballer and person they can be.

LET THEM PLAY. LET THEM LEARN. LET THEM ENJOY FOOTBALL.
